A new idea for Europe: The Schumann declaration – 1950-2000 by Pascal Fontaine (Cover detail)


The 9th of May is a celebration of peace and unity in Europe.  This date was chosen as it marks the anniversary of the ‘Schuman declaration‘ where the French Foreign Minister laid out his ideas for a new form of cooperation in Europe that would make war between European nations unthinkable.  This declaration is seen as the start of what has become the European Union
