The Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) on the Archives Portal Europe

Villa Salviati in Florence, home to the HAEU

The Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) are the official archival holdings of the European Union Institutions and are part of the European University Institute in Florence. The HAEU also collects the private papers of key European Political figures, high ranking officials and others involved in the process of European Integration. Access is subject to the 30 year rule and some deposits have specific conditions placed on them at the request of the depositor.  Further information is available here.

Earlier this year, HAEU published over 3000 documents from EU Institutions to the The Archives Portal Europe, making them much more straight forward to access online.

Staff in the EDC in Taylor Library are here to help you access EU documents whether historical or current. So if you’re struggling to find something, please do get in touch.
