Standard Eurobarometer surveys on EU citizens’ opinions are conducted twice every year.

For the latest report surveys took place, during November 2016, in the 28 EU Member States, in the five candidate countries and with the Turkish Cypriot Community from the part of the country not controlled by the government of the Republic of Cyprus.  The report analyses how Europeans view their political institutions as well as the EU and its institutions. It also looks at attitudes on European citizenship and on issues such as free movement, migration and the euro.

The UK report covers a number of the key issues and looks at recent changes in attitudes across the 28 member states and compares them to the UK.

Key UK findings were:

  • a fall in negative feelings on immigration
  • on an individual basis, the major concern is now inflation and rising prices
  • more positive feelings of attachment to the EU
  • a higher level of understanding how the EU works
  • a strong increase in pessimism on the future of the EU
  • a majority believes the UK could better face the future outside the EU
